(Above L to R: Joan, Holly, Brian)
Until today they all hadn’t seen each other in 30 years. People move far away from each other and I guess even the best of friends drift apart.
I had actually seen Holly and Brian a good bit in the last several years because whenever I had shows up north I’d stop in and say hello or stay for a night or two. Holly and Brian have always felt like family to me for some reason. You’d have to meet them to understand how it’s so easy to feel close to them. They’re so warm and accepting and easy-going. I had been wanting my mom to reconnect with them, but she lives in South Carolina so, ya know, not really gonna happen. But we were in Connecticut for my cousin’s wedding this weekend, and I engineered a little reunion.
We pulled up to Holly and Brian’s house and they met us at the road and everyone hugged and laughed for a long time. It was kind of surreal. I wasn’t around when they were such close friends but I’d heard so much about those days from them. We spent a couple of hours touring around the UConn campus and talking, and they we had to leave to go to the wedding I took a couple of pictures so I could send them all something to remember the day.
